It appears that frankincense is becoming harder and harder to come by as the mortality rate of the Boswellia papyrifera trees in Ethiopia continues to increase. If we wish to continue to experience the wonderfully spicy and exotic aroma that emanates from this dried tree resin, we must become a bit more wise ourselves. Currently, these trees are being threatened by beetle infestations, fire and animal grazing. More selective tapping is necessary as is protection for existing trees and a more comprehensive plan for replacing older and injured trees.
